Details Released On Friday Fatal

On February 1, 2019, members of the Allegany County Sheriff’s office responded to the area of Route 40 (National Highway) near Fisher's Auto in Frostburg, Allegany County, Maryland for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, two vehicles were resting along the westbound shoulder/westbound travel portion of Route 40 with severe damage.  Vehicle #1 operated by Ronald Joseph Robertson, age 70 of Frostburg, Md. was driving a 2006 Dodge Dakota Truck with severe damage to the entire passenger side of the vehicle. This was the point of impact and also the location the passenger, Linda Raye Bond, age 70 of Frostburg, Md. Vehicle #2, a 2007 GMC Envoy SUV was resting on the westbound travel portion with severe front-end damage. The operator, Jennifer Lee Edwards, age 36 had two passengers, her children ages 1 and 2. All three were checked by EMT's at the scene and declined medical treatment.  

The investigation revealed the driving conditions were described as treacherous. The snow emergency plan was in effect, and revealed that vehicle #1 went into a slide from the ice/snow covered roads and crossed over into the path of vehicle #2 causing vehicle #2 to strike Vehicle #1 on the passenger side of the vehicle. The passenger, Bond, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Western Maryland hospital and was pronounced deceased.  

Accident reconstructionist was requested and responded to the scene.  His preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was at fault for failing to drive right of center with weather/roadway conditions being a factor. Also, in proper use of the seat belt factored into the incident.  Sgt. C. Hill  Crash Investigator, will continue his investigation for detailed findings and will remain open pending his completion.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s office was assisted by Maryland State Police, Lavale VFD, as well as State Highway.
