County EMS director awaiting official notice from City on ending mutual aid

March 9th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Preferring to wait until he receives official notice, Allegany County’s Director of Emergency Services Dick Devore tells WCBC News he will hold off on responding to the action taken by the Cumberland Mayor and City Council this week to terminate all mutual aid agreements with the county for emergency ambulance calls.  That decision was approved Tuesday by a unanimous vote during the regular meeting of the mayor and council at City Hall.  City officials apparently have become frustrated with the arrangements that have seen an increase in the number of outside city ambulance calls the city crews are having to respond to. Devore told WCBC News that several steps have been taken in recent years by the county to improve the situation- and that the numbers will demonstrate just that. Having not yet received official communication from the city, Devore says he will refrain from commenting until then…
