Diamond Lounge Ordered Vacated, Closed

September 28th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has issued an order to have all occupants of Diamond Apartments vacate the structure, close Diamond’s Lounge and limit the seating capacity of the Acropolis Restaurant due to violations of the State Fire Prevention Code. This order remains in effect until the building meets the requirements of the State Fire Prevention Code.

Deputy State Fire Marshals along with the regional Fire Protection Engineer discovered serious code violations during a joint inspection with an officer from Frostburg City Code Enforcement on September 26, 2013. Violations included but not limited a non-compliant and antiquated fire alarm system, padlocked doors, no approved means of egress from the third floor, blocked exits in the nightclub, lack of the restaurant commercial cooking equipment meeting current standards and a 2×4 located as a locking mechanism on the restaurants rear door.

A total of nineteen (19) apartments are above the popular restaurant and nightclub located at 43-53 East Main Street. Of those, nineteen (19) people reside in sixteen (16) of the units. All occupants must be vacated by 4:00PM on Monday, September 30, 2013 and a fire watch must be maintained until then. While the bar will be closed indefinitely, the restaurant will remain open with seating limited to forty-nine (49) patrons. Representatives with the Department of Social Services will be available on Monday at 9:00AM at the Frostburg Community Center, 27 Water Street and assist with the relocation of the displaced occupants.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was assisted by The City of Frostburg, Frostburg City Code Enforcement and Frostburg City Police Department.
