District One Delegation to Meet with SHA on Permit Process

May 22nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The District One Legislative Delegation has scheduled a meeting with representatives from the Maryland State Highway Administration in an attempt to address some of the permitting concerns that have been expressed by the Allegany County Commissioners. The meeting will take place early next month at the County Office Complex. All three county commissioners have publicly complained in recent months that a number of new business opening are in various stages of delay as a result of a needlessly convoluted permitting process on the state level. The projects being impacted, according to the commissioners, include a new Love’s Travel Stop and Country Store location,  a new Sheetz store and a Cracker Barrel Restaurant. SHA officials are on record as saying those projects are not being but simply are going through the normal process for permits that involve highway impacts.  Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr. recently said his conversations with SHA representatives have not been positive- and he firmly believes the permitting process can be expedited.
