Downtown Mall Redesign And Hotel Development Slated To Begin Next Summer

September 23rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation earlier this year purchased the former M&T Bank Building located on the downtown mall with the idea being to eventually convert it into a boutique hotel. Paul Kelly, executive director of the CEDC said the purchase price is $500,000.  Located at 118 Baltimore St., the five-story, 44,000-square-feet building has a tax assessment of $1.6 million. The development of a hotel is considered an anchor project for the planned redesign of the Downtown Cumberland Mall.  Kelly says both the redesign of the mall and the development of the hotel are tentatively slated to begin next summer…

Goodness me, this article got it right this time. As the anchor project I’m sure it will sink to the bottom as any anchor would. Great article. (Does anyone in a position of power have any idea of what they are doing? The taxpayers are really needed now just to keep this anchor afloat. So Sad!

What used to be called a pedestrian mall, Baltimore St. is now being called an access road.
It seems that there is no longer any emphasis on shops or restaurants.

The powers that be might try to enforce the dress code that was attempted some years ago. No wifebeaters, must wear shoes, and etc. No loitering or sitting on the planters, I can’t remember all of it.
It’s the PC police at work enforced by the Cumberland police.
Our PR firm will probably give it an upbeat name but it will be discrimination none the less.

Why do people delusionally believe that updating the downtown mall or Canal Place will provide some sort economic boon? They’ll come from far and wide to go to canal place and Baltimore Street. LOL. Focus all of that time, effort, and money luring employers that will offer career jobs instead.

On another note and thought, Cumberland can’t even fill the other hotels we have let alone a high class boutique hotel. I would be for it with most everyone else in Cumberland if we were to get Sothebys Auction House to move to Cumberland from New York City. It may have a chance then if they would do weekly auctions here.

If this is a fancy-shmansy hotel, they better forget it. We don’t need this high-class stuff here. If so, we heed to go to our president Donald Trump and ask him to help us with a Trump hotel and resort. But, no, our officials have not tried talking to Trump. He cares about the little guy people, wake up!

Attention Citizens of Cumberland!!! Now is the time to voice your concerns. Once the walking street is dug up and a single lane for traffic is in the works it will be too late. We’ll get that high flooring hotel and bleed more money from our coffers. Show our officials that they don’t realize what they are doing except spending money we really don’t have. This is a call for help and assistance. Thank you.
