Dr. Cox Says Governors Mandate On Post Labor Day School Start A Mistake

Appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Thursday morning, Allegany County Superintendent of Schools Dr David Cox said bluntly that Maryland Governor Larry Hogan made a mistake in signing an executive order mandating a post Labor Day start to the school year. Those supporting the concept say it will be good for the tourism economy, and also provide for more family time. Critics however see a myriad of problems. Dr Cox says with an end date of June 15th also part of the executive order- and already about a dozen mandated “off days” built into the school calendar- it’s going to be difficult not to lose instructional time under this plan…
