CDS Arrest

On September 10, 2014 at approximately 4:51 PM the Cumberland Police were handling a call on Gulf War Memorial Drive.  While handling the unrelated incident, a vehicle was observed trying to maneuver around the parked police cruiser and struck the police car, causing minor damage.  The operator of the vehicle ignored commands by the police officer to stop and fled from the scene.  The police officer was able to stop the vehicle and contacted the driver, Dario Thornton.  Thornton was arrested for hit and run and searched incident to arrest.  The search resulted in locating a clear plastic baggie containing two individually baggies of heroin.  Also located inside the baggie were two individual baggies of crack cocaine.  Due to the amount and type of packaging, it was determined Thornton possessed the heroin and crack cocaine to be in sufficient quantity to distribute for resale purposes.

During the traffic stop, a passenger, Megan Bone, was also contacted.  After a search was conducted, Bone was found to be in possession of heroin and heroin paraphernalia.  Bone was arrested and transported to Cumberland Police for paperwork and processing.

Thornton and Bone were taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.  Thornton was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $10,000 bond and Bone was released on her personal recognizance.  The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
