Early Voting Numbers Up

The initial numbers of early voting ahead of next week's Primary Election has already exceeded the number of voters who cast ballots in both 2010 and 2012. As of Wednesday, the Maryland State Board of Elections reports 90,223 have cast ballots.  That represents 7.46% of registered voters. That total includes 19,064 people who voted on Tuesday. In 2010 and 2012, early voting lasted six days ahead of election. In 2010, 77,218 people voted early. In 2012, 76,214 people voted early. Thanks to legislation passed last year, the early voting period now lasts eight days. More than 74% of those who cast ballots have been Democrats. More than 24% who cast ballots were Republicans. The 63 early voting centers will remain open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. through Thursday. The numbers are not nearly as strong locally, with Allegany County at less than a 1% response.
