Ed Root Appointed To Fill Vacancy On Allegany Co. Board of Education

Ed Root has been appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to fill the Allegany County Board of Education seat that became vacant when the state removed member Wayne Foote last month. In a brief email statement sent out late afternoon on Wednesday, the governor’s office with little about the process simply confirming the appointment and providing a brief biography: “Dr. Root has over 50 years of experience in the educational field.  He was previously elected to this Board of Education and served from 2011 to 2016 as a Member, Vice President, and President. He also was elected and served two terms on the Maryland State Board of Education from 1999 to 2007. Dr. Root is currently an adjunct professor at Frostburg University, and previously served as the University’s Dean of the School of Education”.  The board had been mired in controversy and debate for the better part of the year, with a series of 3-2 split votes on key issues. Root, who had not yet received official notification when contacted by WCBC News, said he hopes to bring some stability to the situation…

    This was predicted before Foote was even charged.
