Education Funding Expected To Increase At Both State And County Levels

Although early in the budget process on both the state and county levels, initial indications are that education funding will be increasing from both Maryland and the County Commissioners. During Tuesday’s work session of the Allegany County Board of Education, Finance Director Randy Bittinger provided a brief overview of what to expect on the revenue side of things for FY 2017. Because of a new provision in state law regarding maintenance of effort funding allocations; and an expected hike in state dollars targeted for education- the local education budget will easily exceed last year’s. Bittinger cautions however that the additional funding doesn’t guarantee smooth fiscal sailing for the school board…
