Neighborhoods with strong identities and pride can be a big boost for any city- and a there is an effort now underway in Cumberland to re-establish the kind of neighborhood spirit that existed decades ago. The Cumberland Neighborhood Advisory Commission recently has held a series of meetings since restructuring with a goal to renew efforts to recognize neighborhood associations and improve communication and cooperation between the various neighborhood groups and city officials. One of the first topics addressed by the commission is the 2013 Comprehensive Plan Neighborhood Element. The plan is based on neighborhood meetings held in 2010 throughout Cumberland. The idea was to have a historical and cultural overview of each neighborhood and their defining features and distinctions.
