Economic Development Corporation accuses outside group of using “scare tactics”

Shawn Hershberger, executive director of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, continues to express his frustration with an outside group trying to force itself into the Maryland Avenue Revitalization Project discussion. Preservation Maryland, a Baltimore-based nonprofit agency, issued a press release last month critical of the project and requested the city to come up with a new strategy for the urban renewal effort. The group also met with residents of the impacted area. The urban renewal plan, commonly known as the Rolling Mill Project, calls for the removal of approximately 60 homes between Maryland Avenue and Park Street and Williams and Emily streets. Once razed, the area would become a commercial district with a restaurant and businesses.
