It has been eight years since the 372nd Military Police Company based in Cresaptown became embroiled in an international controversy that put the small unit on the map and in the history books for all the wrong reasons. Current leadership at the Company is trying to move beyond that scandal and restore the operations reputation. The 372nd, a law enforcement unit within the U.S. Army Reserve was one of the focal points of the 2004 Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal. 11 former unit members were charged with various counts related to the mistreatment of prisoners. In an effort to make Abu Ghraib a part of the past – and to shine a spotlight on what the unit actually does- a family day was held at the 372nd facilities this past weekend. Staff Sgt. Dallas Pierce tells WCBC News that although the unit has been in this area since 1949- there are still a lot of people who aren’t aware of its mission and responsibilities…
