The Garrett County Sheriff’s office reports that a Swanton woman was killed after a drunk driving crash in Garrett County early Sunday afternoon. Bryson Dixon, 24 of Oakland, wass driving an SUV eastbound on Route 50 when for unknown reasons he lost control and hit an embankment causing his vehicle to overturn. 21 year old Samantha Gibson was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital where she died from injuries she sustained in the crash. Dixon was arrested and charged with DUI.

On the 03/17/2012 at 1510 hours troopers from the MSP Cumberland Barrack responded to Md. Rt. 51 at Old Oldtown Road for a reported fatal vehicle accident. The investigation revealed that a silver Dodge Ram pick up truck bearing West Virginia registration, driven by a Jason Heitt of Paw Paw, WV was traveling south bound MD Rt. 51 at the Old Oldtown Road. A gray Chevrolet cobalt Pennsylvania registration driven by a Mary C Miller was traveling north bound MD Rt. 51 at the Old Oldtown Road. The driver of the Dodge Ram pick up had to brake suddenly due to a vehicle in front of him pulling off the roadway. Heitt then lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the north bound lane and struck the Chevrolet Cobalt. Mary Miller, the operator of the Chevrolet Cobalt did not survive the collision. The passenger of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Blaine Miller and the operator, Jason Heitt, of the Dodge Ram were transported to the Western Maryland Health Systems with non-life threatening injury. This incident is currently under investigation.
