Fatal Accident Near Indian Springs

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack are investigating a severe motorcycle crash that occurred on I-70 East just prior to Exit 9.

     Several motorcycles were traveling East prior to Indian Springs when the group of motorcycles slowed for unknown reasons.  A 2008 Harley Davidson which was being operated by Matthew L. Adams, 42, of Martinsburg, WV had slowed and was struck from behind by a 1992 Harley Davidson being operated by Mark D. Stephens, 46, of Falling Waters, WV.  After striking the rear of the 2008 Harley Davidson, Mark D. continued to lose control and struck a 2004 Harley Davidson being operated by Mark B. Stephens, 23, of Falling Waters, WV.  Mark B. also had a passenger who was identified as Megan R. Daymude, 19, of Inwood, WV.  Daymude was pronounced dead at the scene and Mark B. was transported via MSP Trooper 3 and was later pronounced dead at Baltimore Shock Trauma.  Mark D. was also transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma via Trooper 5 for his injuries.

   A Maryland State Police Reconstructionist responded to the scene to assist at the scene and the MSP Crash Team has been notified and will continue to assist in the investigation.    I-70 East was closed for approx. 4 ½ hours while Troopers investigated and I-70 West was closed for approx. 1 hour while MSP Aviation was on scene.
