On Monday,  Troopers from the Maryland State Police – Hagerstown Barrack were dispatched to the area of I-70 East (Eisenhower Memorial Highway) near the twenty-one (21) mile marker for a single vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, Troopers observed a Maroon 2006 Chevy Trailblazer that had left the roadway and traveled into the center median.  The Chevy continued to slide on the grassy surface and eventually struck a tree head-on before coming to rest.  Preliminary investigation into the event which was corroborated by an independent witness revealed that the operator, identified as Jessica N. Dones, 27, of Warfordsburg, PA, was traveling in an erratic manner and most likely utilizing her cell phone while in operation just prior to leaving the roadway.

Dones was transported to Meritus Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.  No other vehicles were involved in this incident and there were no other occupants of the Chevy.
