Fatal Motorcycle Accident

On 7/9/12 at 0929 hours the MSP Cumberland Barrack initiated an investigation for a missing 24 year old male from Cumberland, Maryland.  The investigation revealed that the subject left his Cumberland, Maryland address on 7/8/12 at approximately 1000 hours, operating a 2006 Honda CBR 1000cc motorcycle.  After several hours, the subject failed to return home and was unable to be located by family members.  Based on the circumstances of the case, it was suspected that the subject may have been involved in an unreported motor vehicle collision.  Troopers from the Cumberland Barrack, MSP Aviation Command Trooper 5, MSP K9 Units, and the MSP Search Management Team responded to the area to assist in the investigation and search for the missing subject.  On 7/9/12 at approximately 1850 hours, Troopers located the missing person and the motorcycle in a culvert adjacent to Barton Park Dr., Rawlings, MD.  Investigation revealed that the subject was operating the motorcycle northbound on Barton Park Drive and for unknown reasons, the motorcycle and operator travelled off of the roadway and struck the culvert.  The operator received fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  The identity of the subject is being withheld at this time pending notification of all family members.  This investigation is ongoing by the MSP Cumberland Barrack.
