The Cumberland Times News reports a Hagerstown man and two Oakland men died in hunting-related incidents on the opening weekend of Maryland’s two-week buck firearms season, according to Natural Resources Police Lt. Catherine Medellin. The victims were identified as Brent Alan Starkey II, 51, of Hagerstown, and Jerome Kirby Moyer, 87, and Larry William Gordon, 71, both of Oakland.  Police said Gordon was hunting Saturday with his son and had shot a deer on private property off King Wildeson Road in the Oakland area. The men were driving back to their residence about 3:40 p.m. when Gordon reportedly suffered an apparent fatal heart attack, Medellin said, despite CPR administered by his son. Medellin said Moyer was hunting from a deer stand in the area of Earl Hauser Road in Oakland Saturday afternoon. He was found dead about 2 p.m. of natural causes just after shots were heard in the area of his location. In Allegany County, Starkey was walking out of the woods with a fellow hunter Sunday on private property adjacent to Green Ridge State Forest when he suffered an apparent heart attack. His companion reportedly began CPR before moving to another location to access cellphone service and seek help. Starkey was found just after 7 p.m. by ground first-responders after he was located with the assistance of Maryland State Police medevac helicopter Trooper 5, which utilized thermal-imaging equipment, according Medellin.
