Fate Of Current Allegany High School Building Unknown

Allegany County Board of Education member Ed Root says that while there is a chance the current Allegany High School building could be utilized by the school system well beyond the opening of a new school-  its impossible to say at this point just how the situation will play out. Pending approval by the Cumberland City Council on a proposed land swap with the health system, the school board is preparing to move ahead with plans for a new Allegany on the site for the former Sacred Heart Hospital facilities. While that plan has received strong support, there has been equal concern expressed about the future of the current building once the new school opens- with many fearing that it will become a dilapidated eyesore. Root says it’s difficult to foresee a scenario that would keep the current building opened and in use once the new school is completed, but there are no guarantees…
