“Fifty Shades of Grey” shown in West Virginia classroom

May 15th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Portions of "Fifty Shades of Grey," a movie depicting graphic acts of sexual violence, were shown in a West Virginia classroom this week. The Charleston Daily Mail reports the movie was recently aired at Hampshire High School. Officials say a group of students asked their teacher if they could watch the movie as a reward for good work. The teacher didn't know what the film was about. Hampshire High principal Jeff Woofter says the film was shut down after 10 minutes when an assistant principal walked by and saw what they were doing. Hampshire County school policy prohibits students from watching movies of any kind in the classroom. It is unclear if the students or teacher will face disciplinary action.
