First Day of School at New Allegany

A smooth first day of the school year for Allegany County on Wednesday headlined by the official opening and first classes at the brand new $51 million Allegany High School and a back to school celebration at West Side Elementary.  Superintendent of Schools Dr David Cox,as has been his tradition, kicked things off early with a  first day bus ride. Since his hire in 2009, Cox has started each new school year riding with students on one of the bus routes. On Wednesday it was  bus No. 52 to Allegany High School. Cox joined WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” immediately after the ride and said the kids definitely aren’t intimidated by sharing a ride with the head of the school system…

  

Next up was a community welcome back celebration at West Side. Among those on hand: the school’s new principal Shannon Green; Cumberland Police Chief Charles Hinnant and; and City Councilman Eugene Frazier…
