First Day Of School For Allegany County Students

August 29th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

It’s opening day. Wednesday marks the return of school for students of the Allegany County Public School System.  More than 8,000 students are currently enrolled- and as is usually the case- the first day will feature a three-hour early dismissal.  Superintendent of Schools Dr David Cox will start the day with what has become a tradition- a first day bus ride. Since his hire in 2009, Cox has kicked off each school year riding with students on one of the bus routes. Today it’s bus No. 52 to Allegany High School. Cox says that every first day is exciting, but this year is a little extra special with the new $51 million Allegany High School now in service as well as a large number of new teachers entering the system…
