Tomorrow is the first day of school for Allegany County students and as is tradition it will be a half day. County school systems in Maryland had the opportunity to begin the new school year after Labor Day, but due to the expected loss of days to winter conditions, Allegany and Garrett counties applied for and received waivers allowing for the earlier start.
