First United Bank & Trust Supports WMHS Schwab Family Cancer Center Patients

July 16th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

First United Bank & Trust recently supported several fundraising events, all benefiting the Western Maryland Health System Schwab Family Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund. Sally Horn, Relationship Advisor at First United, served as fundraising coordinator. Ms. Horn, who is also a cancer survivor, was driven by her personal desire to give back and pay forward in gratitude to those who provided quality, compassionate care to her during her own illness.

A total of $2,469 was raised through a bank-wide casual day and a special “Love Your Community” event at First United’s Harrison Street branch location, featuring hot dogs and beverages for the public at large. Additionally, a horseshoe tournament was held at Shooters Bar & Grill, which included basket raffles, an auction and a 50/50 drawing.

The Schwab Family Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund directly assists area cancer patients who experience financial challenges in paying for their basic needs, while fighting a life-threatening illness. Financial support from First United and several other area individuals and businesses was key to the event’s success.
