Flu Cases Rising in Region

According to local health officials, Allegany County and Maryland are in the midst of a widespread flu outbreak which began late last year.  The intensity level of flu activity was deemed high by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for the last week of December.  A spokesperson for the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, confirmed flu cases are growing in the region. Allegany County is mirroring the  rest of the state,  with cases of influenza in the county having risen sharply in the past few weeks.  Allegany County Health Officer Dr Sue Raver tells WCBC News that individuals can help prevent influenza infection by getting a flu vaccine- however if you aren’t interested in doing that, there are some common sense steps to take that may help ward off the flu…
