Flu, not ebola more of a concern in Maryland

October 21st, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Despite growing concern over the Ebola virus, local health officials are reminding people to protect themselves from more common illnesses like influenza.

Casiano also mentioned the spike in area residents who have visited the hospital with worries about possible Ebola symptoms, forgetting that symptoms like fever, ache and fatigue are also found in flu patients.

The CDC reported that over the span of three decades, flu associated deaths in the U.S. ranged from about 3,000 to 49,000 people. Area residents supported protecting themselves with a flu shot, but were divided on whether or not they had already done so.
