‘Flush Tax’ May Not Cover Sewer Upgrades

January 21st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Governor Martin O'Malley has proposed to raise the "flush tax" in every household pays from $2.50 to $5 a month on average to aid in the upgrade of sewer systems at water treatment plants in the state. According to WBAL News, without the increase, the state would  face a $385 million shortfall starting this year in the funds needed to upgrade pollution controls. According to reports, doubling the fee could wind up $90 million short because of state debt limitations.
