Footer Dye Works Debate Continues

It seems as though that not a week goes by without a debate on the Footer Dye Works building in Cumberland- and this week the discussion was generated at the annual pre session public meeting of the District One legislative delegation. The aging, yet historic structure has been a point of contention for several years now with some in the community advocating for its demolition, but others wanting to preserve it in hopes of attracting a private developer. One citizen told the delegation that he believes the building is falling apart, and he wants absolutely no consideration by the delegates to pursue two million in state funds to upgrade and maintain the building. Canal Place Authority Chair Andy Vick said recently that they remain in talks with a developer that could provide an attractive private investment into the structure and it could be a “game changer” for the local economy. The Authority did request the local delegates to attempt to secure additional state dollars- but State Senator George Edwards emphasized that a signed contract with guarantees will have to be in place before any additional state funding would be sought…
