Former Commissioner Lewis Passes Away

Longtime Allegany County official Dale Lewis died this morning.

Lewis served as a County Commissioner and Board of Education member for several years, beginning his elected career at the school board in 1980 and serving to 1992, and then serving three terms as a county commissioner, from 1994 to 2002, and then from 2006 to 2010.

Mr. Lewis attended Valley High School; Allegany College of Maryland. He most recently was a real estate agent with  Robinson and Skidmore Professional Real Estate Company. He was formerly employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland. Past member, United Rubber Workers Union Local no. 26. Life member, Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company; State Troopers Lodge no. 40, Fraternal Order of Police. Member, Frostburg Moose Lodge no. 348; Frostburg Rotary; Cresaptown Eagles.

He was a member, Cumberland Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, 1994-2002, 2006-2010; Governor's Flood Mitigation Task Force for Western Maryland, 1996-2002; State Roads Commission, 2003-; Maryland Transportation Commission, 2003-; Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council, Allegany County, 2006-10. 

Mr. Lewis leaves a wife; five children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
