Former First Federal President Deckerhoff Has Died

Richard Carl Deckerhoff, 92, of Bedford, died December 19, 2019 at home.  Deckerhoff was a former president of First Federal Savings and Loan.



Born January 22, 1927 he was the son of the late Carl Dickerhoof and Marian Monroe Starkey Fey.



He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Deckerhoff; a brothers, Lawrence “Bud” Deckerhoff; and, a step-brother, Phil Fey.



Mr. Deckerhoff was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army.



He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and Benjamin Franklin University (Wash., D.C.), where he earned a degree in Finance, Business and Accounting. Dick also earned his CPA.



He worked in Washington, DC until 1954 for the General Services Administration. He returned to Cumberland to work for First Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Deckerhoff served as President, Chief Executive Officers and Chariman of the Board.



He belonged to St. John Lutheran Church, Cumberland Optimist Club and Lodge #63, BPOE.



Survivors include his children, Suzanne Simpson Umstot and husband Todd, Bedford, Patty Widmyer and husband Robbie, Martinsburg, Carol Jean Deckerhoff and Adam Deckerhoff, at home; grandchildren, Allie Simpson, Annie Simpson, and Joseph Widmyer; sister, Jane Mason and husband Ed, Cumberland; step-sister, Annette Fey Diehl, Florida



The family would like to thank his long-time caregivers, Melea Stair, Kimberly Leydig, Kay Canfield, and Etta Helmstetter, for the kind compassionate care provided to Mr. Deckerhoff.



The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., is handling the private arrangements.
