Former Judge Paul Stakem Dies At 77

August 30th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Former Allegany County District Court Judge Paul Stakem has passed away at the age of 77.

Judge Stakem retired from the bench in 2004, although he continued to preside over cases as a retired since then.  He began his legal career as a Deputy State’s Attorney from 1967 to 1971, and then served as the Public Defender from 1972 to 1981, when he was named an associate judge.

He was a graduate of Cumberland’s LaSalle High School, St. Vincent College and the Maryland School of Law.  He was admitted to the bar in 1964.

Judge Stakem was known for his awareness of the technicalities of the law, and was very up on the fine parts of the law and its practice.

The Scarpelli Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which will be completed later today.
