A longtime fixture at St. Mary’s Catholic Church has died at the age of 81. Monsignor James V. Hobbs, who served as associate pastor at St. Mary’s from 1957 until 1972, died Sunday. Monsignor Hobbs was instrumental in training hundreds of altar servers and took a special interest in youth activities. In recent years, Monsignor Hobbs helped oversee the multi-million dollar restoration of the basilica in Baltimore. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 am at Mt. St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg.
