Former tourism director passes

Jo Beynon, who served as Allegany County’s director of tourism and public relations in the 1970’s and 80’s has passed away at the age of 61. Beynon, who had been residing at the Kensington-Algonquin is perhaps best remembered for her role in helping establish the annual Heritage Days festival in downtown Cumberland- having headed the committee from 1973 to her retirement from the county in 1988. Former longtime Allegany County Commissioner Arthur Bond is just one of the local officials who worked closely with Beynon for many years. He told WCBC News that he appreciated her efforts on behalf of the county, and her friendship
