Forum On New Academic Standards To Be Held Next Month

Forums are being held across the state on the new academic standards known as Common Core- and far western Maryland parents and interested citizens are invited to a mid November session.  The forums are designed to answer questions that parents and teachers have about the new math and reading standards that have been adopted by Maryland and 44 other states and the District of Columbia.  On Thursday, November 14, Allegany and Garrett Counties will host an informational session on the Common Core State Standards at Frostburg State University in the Compton Science Center, Room 226, from 7-8:30 p.m.  The evening will include remarks from Dr. Lillian Lowery, Maryland State Superintendent of Schools; Dr. David Cox, Allegany County Superintendent of Schools; and Ray Leone, Maryland PTA president.  Dr. Lowery said the Common Core standards will bring consistency to the educational system, ensuring that the standards are the same whether a child lives in Maine or Maryland….
