Franchot Opposed To Creating Sales Tax On Gasoline

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's proposal to create a 6 percent sales tax on gasoline would be a "shot in the gut" for the middle class and businesses- that’s the opinion of state Comptroller Peter Franchot.  Franchot did not offer an alternative for generating new transportation dollars at a briefing on how the state would implement the tax, which is expected to raise $613 million annually after a three-year phase-in.
