Franchot Rumored To Be Interested In Running For Governor

The tax hike brokered by the governor and legislative leaders and approved during a special session of the Maryland General last month takes effect as of July 1st. Perhaps the most vocal opponent- even more so than many republicans- has been democrat Comptroller Peter Franchot. Franchot, mid way into his he second term as comptroller,  has not been a supporter of many of the agenda items advanced during the O’Malley administration- often times clashing with the governor at the twice monthly board of public works meetings. Rumored for sometime now to be interested in running for the office of governor himself- Franchot acknowledged recently that he has given the idea some thought. He says if he would run, it wouldn’t be to promote a democrat agenda- but rather to work toward policies he believes can best address the sagging economy…
