Franchot Says Expanded Gambling Money Will Go In To The General Fund

Now that question seven approving expanded gambling the state  has passed, the state comptroller is cautioning the public not to get too excited about campaign pledges of a windfall of new education money flowing in. Comptroller Peter Franchot, a passionate opponent of casinos making a home in Maryland, said the public should know that the money promised for public schools will not be there. He said the money will go to the general fund that is “raided” by whatever needs the state legislature thinks are greater, or more immediate, than education. Franchot bluntly says that Governor Martin O’Malley and other were simply lying when the made campaign promises that casinos will reduce debt and support education…
