Franchot Says Gas Tax Will Hurt Western Maryland Most

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot told Allegany County officials during a recent meeting that the gas tax that was approved in March to pay for transportation projects will hurt people in western Maryland more than most . Lawmakers  passed a transportation bill that will raise gas prices by 4 cents in July and 13 to 20 cents by July 2016.  The increase goes into effect in less than two weeks and Franchot says those residing in rural parts of the state- the middle and working class people in a still fragile economy- will be hardest hit…
