Comptroller Franchot will visit South Mountain MicroFARM in Boonsboro on Monday afternoon to present a proclamation in honor of the world's first Aquaponic MicroFarm. Manager Levi Sellers opened the business in 2016. Aquaponics is a hybrid system that combines organic farming, hydroponics (soiless plant culture) and recirculating aquaculture to create an ecosystem in which both plants and fish can thrive. South Mountain MicroFARM sells its pesticide- and chemical-free products at local farmer's markets.
