Franchot Visits Cumberland As Part Of “Shop Maryland For The Holidays” Tour

Comptroller Peter Franchot continued his “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” tour in Cumberland Monday, encouraging Marylanders to get off the Internet and shop local for the holidays. Making stops at a number of stores and restaurants on the downtown mall, Franchot said that shopping local as opposed to national chain stores or the internet keeps the balk of the revenue in the area- and provides a boost to the economy. Speaking to a number of area citizens and officials at the Emporium, the comptroller actually made a Christmas purchase himself before leaving the store. Cumberland Councilwoman Mary Beth Pirolozzi said that while strides have been made in revitalizing the downtown business district, there are still any number of vacant storefronts…
