Frostburg Business Destroyed By Fire

FROSTBURG, MD. (May 25, 2014) – A Team of Deputy State Fire Marshals have
concluded an origin and cause investigation at the scene of a two alarm fire which was
reported around 9:00 A.M. this morning.

The fire was reported at 157 E. Main Street, Frostburg. The building involved is a two
story masonry and wood framed commercial structure. The first floor was known as “The
Dawg House” formally Duncan’s Bar & Grill. The two apartments on the second floor
were occupied at the time of the fire. The fire was discovered by a second floor occupant
when smoke was witnessed coming from the first floor business.
The fire brought 82 firefighters from fourteen fire departments to the scene. Fire
departments responded from Allegany, Garrett and Mineral County West Virginia. The
fire was placed under control by Incident Command after one hour.
The interior of the first floor business has been determined to be the origin of the fire. The
cause has been determined to be accidental as a result of overloaded wiring running
kitchen appliances. The business suffered significant damage and is estimated to be
$200,000.00 dollars in losses. The occupants of the second floor apartments have been
temporarily displaced.
The business was not open at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.
