Frostburg Fire Dept. Stretched to Breaking Point

With resources stretched to the breaking point, representatives of Frostburg Fire Department No.1 are asking the Allegany County Commissioners to establish a special taxing district. Gary Tummino, the department’s treasurer, reports that the number of calls to the Frostburg Department has grown dramatically as they are now being asked to respond to about 90 percent of the area formerly covered by the now-defunct Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department. The commissioners previously rejected the idea, and there was little indication during Thursday’s work session that they are about the change their minds. Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr was the most outspoken, saying that there has been a lot of maneuvering taking place behind the scenes and there has not been a great deal of transparency on the part of the Frostburg Department. He was emphatic in saying that he will not force a tax on any community unless there is support for it among the impacted citizens…
