A Frostburg man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into Gianni’s Pizza Shop on Main Street, struggled with the owner and then ran. The Cumberland Times News reports Frostburg Police chased the suspect and were able to make a positive identification as he ran away.

A warrant was obtained to search an East Main Street residence where 25-year-old Ronald Dewain Smith Jr. was taken into custody without incident.

Smith was arrested at about 9 a.m. on charges of burglary and assault. He remained jailed Thursday on $50,000 bond following bail review in district court.

Frostburg Police said Gianni’s was broken into Oct. 7 and 21.

Entry to the business Wednesday was made through a rear window that was secured with metal bars, police said.

The business owner encountered the suspect on the premises at about 5:30 a.m.

The investigation is continuing by the C3I Unit.
