Frostburg State University Bobcats to Celebrate Homecoming 2016

Past, present and future Frostburg State University students are invited to celebrate Homecoming Weekend on the campus they can all call home. From Thursday, Oct. 20, to Sunday, Oct. 23, FSU will host a variety of exciting events, including a pep rally, a comedy performance, special ceremonies and athletic games.

The celebration will kick off on Thursday with a Retired Employee Luncheon in the Gira Center at noon. Later that evening, the Bobcat spirit will continue with the announcement of Homecoming King and Queen at the Pep Rally in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center at 7 p.m.

In addition, the Department of Theatre and Dance will host performances of “Around the World in 80 Days” in the Drama Theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. with tickets on sale at the Performing Arts Center box office.

Friday morning begins with the Career Expo in the Lane University Center and campus-wide, from 9 a.m. to noon, an opportunity for students and alumni to network within their fields of interest. From noon to 4 p.m., Robert Ladislas Derr’s art exhibit, “Keep an Eye On,” will be on display in the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery and remain open during those hours throughout the weekend. The Bobcat Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and dinner will take place that evening at 5 p.m. in the Lane Center Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. Then Friday night at 8 p.m., award-winning actor and comedian Chris Tucker will perform in the Cordts PE Center Main Arena to provide sidesplitting entertainment. Tickets, starting at $5 for students and $20 for general admission, can be purchased at the Lane Center box office or at http://ces.frostburg.edu/.

FSU’s busy Saturday starts with tailgating at 8 a.m. in the Stadium Lot with free parking on a first-come, first-served basis. Giveaways and refreshments will be available at the Alumni Tent. The Alumni Welcome Center will be set up with kid-friendly refreshments, games and activities, and there will be a table where alumni can update contact information or leave a note for fellow alumni from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Lane Center. The Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Brunch will also be held that morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Lane Manicur Hall. “Solar Superstorm,” a 40-minute multimedia presentation, will be on view in the Gira Center’s Multimedia Learning Center at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The show costs $1 for adults and is free for children 18 and younger.

Later that morning, a walking campus tour, starting at 11 a.m., will allow alumni to get up close and personal with the buildings they grew to love and the new ones they have yet to know. The first of the athletic events, a Volleyball Tri-Match among FSU, Goucher and St. Mary’s of Maryland, begins at 11 a.m. in the PE Center Main Arena. The Accounting Alumni Luncheon, sponsored by the FSU Accounting Association and the FSU Alumni Association, will take place in the Lane Center South Addition at noon. A baseball locker room ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur in the PE Center at 12:30 p.m., officially introducing the team’s new state-of-the-art facility and honoring individuals who have sponsored lockers.

The Bobcat football team then hosts Christopher Newport University with kickoff at 1 p.m. Bobcat Stadium will continue its full schedule with the women’s and men’s soccer teams hosting Marymount University at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively.

On Saturday night, the Frostburg Finale will take over the Lane Center from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets cost $10 for students and $15 for alumni. The multi-faceted event features a DJ, karaoke, “dueling piano bar,” photo booth, snacks and a cash bar. An ID is required for entry. In addition, the Student Homecoming Dance, hosted by the Student Homecoming Committee, will take place from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the PE Center Main Arena. Tickets go on sale Oct. 10 at the Lane Center box office.

The celebration comes to a close on Sunday, starting with the Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting at 9:30 a.m. in Gira Center room 397. All alumni are welcome and encouraged to attend. The PE Center will continue to host many events, including the men’s basketball alumni game at 10 a.m., the women’s basketball alumni game at 11:30 a.m. and the volleyball match against Marymount University at 3 p.m. Additionally, Field Hockey will host Christopher Newport University at Bobcat Stadium starting at 11 a.m.

To wrap up Homecoming, the Student Government Association will host its Big Event to clean up the streets of Frostburg. Those interested in participating should meet in the lobby of the Lane Center at noon on Sunday.
