Frostburg Woman Beaten, Injured

February 19th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

A woman was found beaten and injured when Frostburg Police forced entry into an East Main Street residence early Friday. The victim's live-in boyfriend was taken into custody there without further incident. Officers responded to 171 E. Main at 4:42 a.m., after the police department received numerous calls reporting a “female yelling for help” inside a ground-floor apartment. Frostburg Police “met with no answer” when they arrived at the apartment but the officers could reportedly hear a female voice inside the residence.

Police identified the male occupant as 20-year-old Justin Michael DeMoss, who reportedly refused to answer the door and told officers to leave.

Officers kicked the door open and arrested DeMoss, who reportedly became combative and resisted arrest.

DeMoss was in custody when Frostburg State University Police arrived to provide assistance.

Two Frostburg Police officers sustained minor injuries in the incident. One of the officers required medical treatment.

Police said the 18-year-old female victim suffered head and neck injuries, including a facial laceration. She reportedly lost consciousness during the incident.

The victim was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where she was discharged following treatment in the emergency department.

DeMoss was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, failure to obey a lawful order, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

He remained in custody at the Frostburg Police station early Friday afternoon, pending a bond hearing by a district court commissioner.

The investigation included the assistance of the C3I Unit.
