FSU Named One Of “Best Colleges For Your Money.”

September 5th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Frostburg State University has again been ranked one of the “Best Colleges for Your Money” by MONEY Magazine in its “uniquely practical analysis” of America’s 711 best-performing colleges for 2017-18. Frostburg appeared on MONEY’s inaugural ranking last year and moved up more than 100 places in the new ranking.

“From our founding, Frostburg has focused on delivering a quality, affordable education. We continue to honor the legacy of our founders by remaining affordable and launching our graduates to successful and satisfying lives,” said FSU President Ronald Nowaczyk. “MONEY’s ranking really highlights the tremendous value our students find in Frostburg.”

MONEY studied about 2,400 four-year colleges and universities, eliminating two-thirds of the schools in its initial cut. Each of the remaining 711 schools merited placement on the Best Colleges for Your Money list, where they were analyzed and ranked.

MONEY wrote in its accompanying article, “You’ve heard of the Ivy League? Nowadays, bragging rights are going to colleges in what we’ll dub the ‘Paycheck League’ – schools that the real numbers show provide a boost in the job market.”

Frostburg ranked 506 on MONEY’s 2017-18 list, an improvement of 100-plus places over the previous year’s list, which saw FSU tied at 622 of 705.

MONEY’s analysis examined 27 unique data points in the categories of quality, affordability and alumni success, which surveys show are the most important metrics for today’s parents and students. For each category, at least one “value-added” metric was used, revealing a “school’s performance after subtracting the impact of its average student’s test scores and percentage of low-income students.” That methodology allowed MONEY to examine a school’s impact on its students rather than measuring the impact of incoming students on their schools.
