For the 24th consecutive year, Frostburg State University Police has received the Governor’s Crime Prevention Award under Category A for its comprehensive law enforcement agency crime prevention program. On Dec. 4, Lt. Scott Donahue, along with Sgt. Jason McCumber, attended the 35th Annual Governor’s Crime Prevention Awards Program and Luncheon in Annapolis where Donahue was presented with a plaque/trophy on behalf of the department.
“I’m so proud of each of the officers who made receiving this award possible. We employ a proactive community policing philosophy in our daily activities to keep this campus community safe,” said Col. Cynthia Smith, chief of the University Police Department. “The fact that University Police has received the Governor’s Crime Prevention Award for 24 years running is amazing, and illustrates our continuing dedication to preventing crime and keeping the campus community safe.”
University Police was recognized for its outstanding efforts in Category A. The criteria for this category included participation in programs identified by the Maryland Community Crime Prevention Institute, involvement of patrol officers in residential/commercial security surveys, inclusion of residential and/or commercial security training for the department’s recruits’ in-service or specialized training curriculum, a crime prevention public information component such as newspaper articles or radio shows, officer and citizen recognition for crime prevention activities and support of the National Crime Prevention "McGruff" Campaign.
