FSU Preps For Homecoming

Frostburg State University is preparing to welcome alumni for Homecoming from Thursday, Oct. 15, to Sunday, Oct. 18, a weekend filled with fun events that past, present and even future students can attend to show off some of their Bobcat pride.

The weekend will kick off Thursday at noon as retired FSU employees are welcomed back for a luncheon, followed at 7 p.m. with the annual pep rally, where the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.

Friday’s events start off early at 9 a.m. with the Career Expo, where FSU alumni will give presentations across campus allowing students to explore career possibilities. That afternoon, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Roper Gallery in the Fine Arts building, art lovers can view an exhibition, “Synergy,” and meet the artists, all FSU alumni. The exhibition will also be on view Saturday and Sunday during those same hours.

At 5 p.m., the Bobcat Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner will begin in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center. The Hall of Fame will welcome six new inductees, commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1990 football team and celebrate four athletes being selected for the Capital Athletics Conference 25th Anniversary team.

Friday night offers Bobcats a choice between two exciting events: a performance of “The Mousetrap,” a murder mystery play at 7:30 p.m., or a late night comedy show at 9 p.m. The suspenseful and dramatic “The Mousetrap” will be presented in the Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre. Tickets, available at the door, are $6 for students and $12 for general admission. The comedy show will be in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall in the Lane University Center.

Saturday starts off with the Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Brunch from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall. Then alumni can meet up for tailgating, which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Stadium Lot. There will be free parking on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as giveaways and refreshments at the Alumni Tent.

Alumni can find information about the weekend, leave a note for a friend or register for prizes at the Alumni Welcome Center in the Lane Center lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature refreshments, games and activities for children and is the meeting spot for a campus walking tour at 11 a.m.

The Bobcat football team will face off against the College of New Jersey in the Bobcat Stadium, with kickoff at 1 p.m. Admission to the game is free. Before the game, football alumni and the families of current players will meet for a reception in the tent at Bobcat Stadium starting at 11:30 a.m..

At 4 p.m., the FSU volleyball team will play against Wesley College in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center, while at 5 p.m. the men’s soccer team will take on St. Mary’s College of Maryland in the Bobcat Stadium. Receptions will be held for alumni and current families of these teams, with the volleyball reception at 2:30 p.m. in the Cordts PE Center Hall of Fame Room, and the men’s soccer reception at 4:30 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium’s Hospitality Suite.

That evening, the fun-filled Frostburg Finale will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Lane Center. There will be a DJ, karaoke, a photo booth, arcade games, creation stations and more. Finale costs $10 and attendees must be 21. Students and their guests can enjoy the Black Student Alliance-sponsored Homecoming Dance from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center.

The Alumni Association Board will meet Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Lane Center Atkinson Room (232), and all alumni are welcome. At 11 a.m., the Men’s Basketball Alumni Game will begin in the Cordts PE Center Main Arena. A Homecoming worship service open to all will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Frost Hall’s Cook Chapel. Then at noon, the Student Government Association will hold its Big Event, where everyone is invited to help clean up the streets of Frostburg.

The FSU field hockey team will play against Wesley College at 1 p.m. in the Bobcat Stadium, with a field hockey alumni and family reception preceding the game at noon in the stadium’s Hospitality Suite. A volleyball game against Susquehanna University will round out homecoming weekend at 2 p.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center.
