Al Delia, Frostburg State University’s vice president for Regional Development and Engagement, has completed Leadership Maryland, the professional development program dedicated to building a better Maryland by harnessing the strength of its local business and community leaders. He was one of 50 individuals chosen for this program.
Delia is the primary contact point for companies, nonprofit organizations and governments in the region to access FSU’s intellectual capital and other resources to address regional opportunities and challenges. He also leads government relations for FSU and works to improve the depth of relationships with local, state and federal governments.
Prior to FSU, Delia served as director of the Office of Health Access at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, N.C. Before that, he was secretary of North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services. In earlier roles, he served as senior advisor to North Carolina Gov. Beverly Eaves Perdue; as CEO of the state’s Eastern Region Development Commission; and as associate vice chancellor for Research, Economic Development and Community Engagement at ECU.
“As this year’s Leadership Maryland cohort completes its program, their journey as a graduate of our state’s finest organization of professionals begins,” said Leadership Maryland Board Chair Memo F. Diriker. “Over the past eight months they have learned about our state, the critical issues it faces and, above all, themselves.”
