July 28th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Bicyclists with the cross-country Pursuit — for people with disabilities cycling campaign — will ride into Cumberland Thursday afternoon.

The campaign is a 3,500-mile cross-country bike ride designed to raise money and awareness for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

So far, the participants have raised $12.4 million. The goal is $13.5 million.

Pursuit is led by David Baldwin, an energy executive from Houston who has long championed for The Center organization and its clients.

Along with his wife Maire, Baldwin has assembled a team of more than 200 volunteers, riders, sponsors and support staff to drive the effort.

The ride began June 6 in Oregon, and will conclude Aug. 3 in Maryland.

Along the way, riders will pass through 11 states and 12 major cities.
